Mike Blade
Director of Marketing

His love for the activity and a passion for teaching have led Mike into an elite class of Texas marching band and color guard instructors. Mike began his training as a percussionist in 5th grade. Unsatisfied with only four years of marching band experience, Mike, with no previous color guard training, auditioned for and was accepted by the Sundowners Winter Guard from Madison, WI (you might say he was “a natural“). He then spent the next two summers marching with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps and his final year of winter guard eligibility with Every-body Winter Guard, Portland, OR.

After brief stops in Arvada, CO and The Colony, TX, Mike’s innovation and determination drew the attention of Marcus High School. With cutting edge vision, Marcus has become a perennial power house in the Texas marching band scene and Mike has played an integral role in elevating the program into the upper echelon of that arena.

Mike’s expertise has been recognized by many organization as he currently assists in direction or serves as a consultant for Madison Scouts, University of Texas at Arlington, Black Gold Winter Guard and Sarajevo Winter Guard. Of all his accomplishments in the activity, Mike is most proud of is his unwavering desire to teach skills that go far beyond the performance arena. Developing the person as well as the performer is his ultimate goal. Mike strives to build both the strong work ethic and healthy self esteem that are required for his students to grow into happy, successful adults. With a unique mix of “tough” love and compassion, Mike has earned the love and loyalty of his students as well as the respect and admiration of his peers.
